Pioneered by the French physician Dr.Michel Pistor in 1952, Mesotherapy is a blanket term for treatment that involves multiple microinjections, in theory, delivering active, therapeutic ingredients directly into the skin. In the 1950’s mesotherapy was a medical technique to first treat blood circulatory problems, sports injuries and medical conditions such as rheumatism. Mesotherapy today is popular in cosmetic practice for skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth and localised fat reduction. 

Medical skin needling involves introducing a series of fine, sharp needles into the skin following the administration of a topical local anesthetic to reduce discomfort. 

TKN DERMAPEN is a microneedling device that has been hailed as the gold standard of micro needling technology. TKN Dermapen is covered with tiny, shallow needles to poke micro injuries in the skin surface. These injuries are actually therapeutic, since they cause a micro injury that prompts skin to stimulate the skin’s natural ability to heal itself increasing the production of new collagen. Collagen forms strong, insoluble fibers that serve as connective tissue between cells. This device is automatic and provides a high-speed vibrating function to increase the efficacy of the treatment quickly and to reduce pain and discomfort for patients. TKN Dermapen device uses sterile, individually-sealed, disposable needle cartridges for optimal patient safety and comfort. Every TKN Dermapen needle tip is actually made of up of 12 smaller adjustable length needles, which use a specific technology to penetrate vertically into the skin. These micro holes caused by the device allow skin to carry more topical nutrients. Thus allowing penetration deep into the dermis fibroblasts and feeding the cells in the dermis and basal layers. This increases the absorption of active ingredients into the skin, stimulating repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells. 

Mesotherapy is a skin rejuvenation treatment that delivers various nourishing substances into the layers of the skin where cell repair and growth occurs. There are numerous types of vitamins, amino-acids, minerals, hyaluronic acids, all essential components for healthy skin cells, that can be delivered by mesotherapy. Mesotherapy involves either multiple injections, or multiple needle punctures where topical serums have been applied to the skin.  

Usually treating the face, scalp and body:

• Dull skin
• Dry skin conditions
• Sun damaged skin
• Superficial lines and wrinkles
• Hair loss
• Small pockets of fat
• Cellulite

Local anaesthetic cream may be applied prior to treatment to numb the skin, this need not be a painful treatment but some of the ingredients may sting or burn. 

The skin may have pin prick marks & tiny blebs/bumps at the injection site dependent on the device and or product used to administer the product. There may be some redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising which should settle within days. Makeup should not be worn for 12 hours. Results will not be immediate, but will develop over time and a course of treatment will be required as advised by your clinician. 

Treatment is not recommended if you are suffering from any skin infection in or near the treatment area or are unwell in any way (even a cold)

If you have previously experienced allergic reactions to any of the ingredients or local anaesthetic

If you are taking any medicines which affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin

If you are taking steroids or have autoimmune disease

If you have any bleeding disorders

If you suffer from a poorly controlled medical condition

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

If you are currently or have recently completed a course of Roacutane (Isotretinoin acne treatment) in the last 18 months

If you have active acne

If you have a previously been treated with a permanent injectable implant

If you have suffered from keloid scars

Injections on the face can trigger the cold sore virus. If you are a sufferer, you must advise your clinician in advance of treatment. If you are planning to attend a special event when a bruise, should it occur, would be unacceptable to you. Some over the counter medicines and supplements can also affect bleeding (make you more prone to bruising) as can alcohol- which should be avoided the day before and after treatment. Vigorous exercise, sun exposure, sun beds, sauna should be avoided for 48 hours, or as advised by your clinician, after treatment. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact the practitioner for advice. If necessary an appointment will be made for you to be seen. 

Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising).

Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.

Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.

If you have a history of cold sores please let your provider know.

During each session, you may or may not have numbing medicine applied to your skin. You’ll get a series of injections using a needle. The injections can be given at different depths, depending on what condition you’re having treated. Your practitioner may place the needle into your skin at an angle, or flick their wrist very quickly while injecting. Each injection may only place a tiny drop of the solution into your skin. You’ll probably need several mesotherapy sessions to get the desired effect. You should expect to return to the clinic between 3 to 15 times. At first, you’ll get the injections every 7 to 10 days. If your skin starts to improve, the treatments will be stretched out to once every two weeks or once a month. 

Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area. Unless instructed by the practitioner

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours

Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling

If you have swelling you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour

Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling

Use Arnica Gel to help the bruising and swelling

Use SPF 50
